JOURNAL ON SUBLIMATION. :)

So, sublimation is when a solid becomes a gas right? Isn't that amazing?! No.

But seriously, what if I just suddenly became a gas, floating away like a balloon. It might be pretty fun until that airplane runs into me. :/ <-- :O ! A smiley! I know how mad you can get at those Mr. B. :P Except they express emotions so well. :)

And that leads into my journal entry. SMILEYS. These little emoticons are the coolest things. The newest trend. Easy for communicating how you feel about something, expressing different emotions. For example:

:) = happy
:D = super extra hyper happy, or "I just got botox and my face is stuck like this"
:( = sad
D: = super extra bad sad
;) = wink
<3>
o_O = "whaaaa?"
}:^D = evil maniac
:O = OMG!
:S = confusedddddd
:3 = fuzzy bunny feeling
xDDDDD = HILARIOUS DOOD!
^^ = expressing cuteness of some sort, praise
$_$ = money money money money money
#_# = ouch. my eyes are all scratched out. noooooo
*.* = starstruck
@_@ = bloodshot eyes, wideopen eyes, annoyance (this one expresses many different feelings, so you have to look at the context to tell what it means)
O.O = shinyyyy
:* = kiss
;_; = crying
.___. = "thanks a lot, bud" <-- [sarcastic voice]
>_< = grrr.
:K = vampire fangs. going to suck your blood!!!
-_- = "wow, you're smart" <-- [sarcastic voice] (this could also mean my eyes have disappeared and all I have left are my eyebrows.....)
x_x = "I just died. Literally."

AND SO ON!

This is so convenient. :D Think of all the smileys you can use to express certain feelings. :O AMAZING! :D I personally use smileys all the time. ;) I think that they are great. Then you don't have to write out words like this : iamohsohappyrightnow. All you have to do is substitute that word for this -> :D!

(Exclamation points add an extra oomph to the expressed feeling/emotion)

So, now, why are these little amazing things so.. hmm.. annoying? Well, they aren't. But, since this is a journal entry about being sublime and ridiculous, I shall have to get another viewpoint.

Most people, older people, I might add, would say that these little cute faces are totally preposterous. They ignore the way of expressing your emotions through words. So, in a sense, us younger generations are losing the way we feel through words, but we have come back to what the Egyptians did thousands of years ago. Hieroglyphics.

Also, you could say emoticons promote the use of text messaging and instant messaging. The use of modern day electronics. This loses, as Ms. Horn would say, the 'trust' between friends, family members, and anyone else you encounter using modern day electronics. Do they really know you? Or do they know the modernelectronicinternetusingtechnologicaltexting you? There's a big difference.

And, quoting Abby McCourt, "Its much easier to tell someone you hate them when you are looking at a computer screen, rather than their face." You can basically do whatever you want when you are using smileys as emotions. You are in your comfort zone. In your own house, looking at your own computer, probably even in your own room, at your desk, or somewhere like that. Its all yours. Yours is comforting. I like having my things around me. I know them. So I can put you down however I want in my comfort zone. Its mine. Not yours. So ha!

I have realized I haven't really explained why these things are so great except for that they express emotions easily. Well, what they do do, is they can also help you get updated. Emoticons are a 21st century thing! Should they teach you to use emoticons/smileys in schools? It would be better if students could understand how to communicate using these nifty little smileys instead of using them incorrectly, and then ruining their lives because of that one text message that had :( instead of :).

These little cuties also bring about a sense of cuteness to your technological communications. For girls, this is especially enticing. And for guys, this is also enticing. If you are sending your lover a text, wouldn't you want to spice it up with a cute little emoticon like this: <3, 3 =" love.">

In my last few words of this amazing blog, I would suggest saying to all that object to emoticons and smileys:

"Grandma, its the 21st century."

:D !!!

  1. Pretty scary to see all the different emoticons that can be used - and I do think they're pretty stupid (but I am pretty old, so there you go).
